El Gigante Puts Both the Lucha and the Gore into LuchaGore

With the right balance of horror and heartbreak, mostly horror or course, LuchaGore Productions latest film El Gigante (based on Muerte con Carne by Shane McKenzie) shows that they are a force to be reckoned with in the world of indie horror.

Dead on Film Festival 2014

So once again The Rio Theatre's Dead on Film Festival, featuring short films where someone has to die, has come to pass. Well one of the people to die was me, in the short film Dangerous Waves! Unfortunately I wasn't able to get there in time to see it since it was the second film to be shown, but I saw it today and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out.

Insidious: Chapter 2

You've gotta love a free movie right? Well once again I won myself some tickets to the pre-screening of a James Wan film, this time Insidious Chapter 2. When offered a free movie even the most petrified of friends will join you for a horror movie, in this case it was my friend Mark. I must say when you are going to a sequel horror film, always bring a scaredy cat, it will make the experience fun no matter what, just make sure they prepare their underpants.

First Horror Role Part 2: The Film

Feeling demonic today?

When it was released on Friday I was pretty much doing a social media frenzy along with everyone else involved and it was the most successful social media...ing I've done. It may sound dorky but I was super excited to be retweeted by horror directors like Nicholas Humphries and The Twisted Twins (Jen & Sylvia Soska) as well as The Rio Theatre and The Storm Crow Tavern. Even my Grampa loved the video!

The short has also had some pretty damn good reception on horror websites, here is a list of links to articles that have been written so far:

Rio Grind Festival Part 1: John Dies at the End

Last Friday I had the priviledge of being at the BC premiere for the movie John Dies at the End, based on David Wong of Cracked.com's novel of the same name. I doubt I will be able to do much aside from gush about this film. In the theatre I was literally just sitting there with this goofy smile on my face. This is one of my favourite films I've seen this year. It felt like watching Naked Lunch, but it made more sense and I just fell in love with the dialogue. The film was so enthralling that I was barely able to take many notes so all I can tell you are a few of the random things you will see watching the movie.

DEDfest Part 4: Famine

Ah, we have come to the conclusion of DEDfest Victoria with the final film that appeared that evening, Famine by Vancouver director Ryan Nicholson. It is a slasher that takes place during a 24 hour Famine (my school wasn't allowed to call them famines so we had 30 hour fasts).

DEDfest Part 3: V/H/S BC Premiere

If you have been wondering why it has been taking me so long to pump out these mini reviews, it's because I've been distracted by a little thing called my Halloween costume (photos to come before Thursday). Anyhow next up is the BC premiere of the first Bloody Disgusting (produced?) film V/H/S. Read more to see my review.

Fear for the Future

I just quickly wanted to update you with what some of the awesome stuff that I will be doing February will be.

First of all I'm going to be going to the WORLD PREMIERE of A Little Bit Zombie (okay so its at a film festival and I bought a ticket, but still). Words cannot describe the excitement I feel. There were crackly squeals of joy coming from me if that helps you imagine my sheer joy. In fact, just so that you can share my excitement here is the trailer (and here is a link to their website):

My next bit of exciting news is that my birthday is coming up, and I have figured out how I am going to celebrate it. I am going to watch my 200th horror film, which means I really need to get on watching over 20 of them by then.
