Blockbuster Season: Winter Soldier, Spider Man 2, X-men & Godzilla

This year's Summer blockbuster season is chock full of films that I've been hankerin' to see. Now I haven't seen all of them yet (Guardians of the Galaxy doesn't even come out until August) but here are my thoughts on the ones that I have seen so far:

People Who "Don't Like Horror Movies"

Whenever I tell someone that I love horror movies often they will say something along the lines of "Really? Personally I don't like horror movies." Yet if we end up really discussing it, they usually reveal that the blanket statement they made is not all that true. I only started noticing this trend as recently as this summer when my mother visited and she agreed to come to The Conjuring with me when she realized it wasn't a gory movie, but a ghosty movie. Apparently all this time that I had thought she hated all horror, it was just the blood and guts she wasn't a fan of, ghosts and demonic possession were a-okay for her. Heck she even enjoyed the movie.

2013: The Top of the Heap

It's that time of the year again, the end. When everyone reflects on all the things that happened this year. Well I'm going to participate in that by in no particular order listing my favourite horror films of 2013.

Pacific Rim, It Just Might Be the Summer's Best Movie

Remember when you were a kid and half of all tv shows not directed specifically at little girls were about giant robots, giant monsters or giant robots fighting giant monsters? Remember how freaking awesome that was? Now imagine that live action, I know you're picturing Power Rangers, but what if they had an actual budget and writers who weren't just cobbling together various Japanese tv shows for five year olds. This is one of the coolest movies I've seen in a long time and actually left me wanting to grow up to be a giant robot driver.
